How to increase vocal range: exercise to improve your singing voice

So, you want to learn how to increase vocal range. Now, I’m not going to give you an analogy of his voice or anything like that. Instead, I’m going to give you some exercises to remember to do to help you improve your voice.

Before we start. Remember to always warm up your voice by humming, breathing correctly, and keeping your voice in good condition.

So here are the exercises to help you increase your vocal range:

First, you should always keep both thumbs under your chin at all times. Just place your thumbs just below your chin where it starts to feel soft.

Whenever you sing badly, you will feel the lower part of your chin being pushed down, whether you are singing high notes or low notes. Try singing a high note right now and you will feel it go down.

Now, I’m not talking about your larynx going down. That is something different. Right now, just focus on the bottom of your chin. Right on top of your Adams apple.

Now if you sing wrong it will go down or stiffen but the thing is if you sing right it will never crash or go down. So while trying to do the following exercises, keep your thumbs there to always be alert.

Then try to hum as softly as possible. This is something you can try to do the moment you wake up. Just try humming mmmm for five minutes and don’t try to force your voice to go straight into the mask right away. Instead, try to focus to sing the mmmm as softly as possible. Without hardening the base of your chin.

Next, you want to try vocal frying. Vocal frying is definitely the number one technique all singers use, and it can actually increase your vocal range instantly. This technique is used to hit the whistle notes and all the notes.

In fact, I did it this morning around 5-10 minutes after waking up and my voice was working incredibly well afterwards.

Basically, vocal frying brings the vocal cords together so that they work well and in the right way. If you already know what vocal fry are, then great.

All of these techniques are great for helping you learn to increase your vocal range. But vocal fry are something different. Here is a test you can do.

Hear the recorded version of Mariah Carey singing “When You Believe” with Whitney Houston. And when Mariah sings her part of “there may be miracles.” Pay attention and listen to the part when it stops at “Look (vowels) cles”. So go ahead, listen to that.

You’ll notice that when you know what vocal fry is. Mariah’s “miracles” example is great.

You may not understand all of this. But that’s okay. I can’t honestly explain how to use this technique. Since it is so difficult to explain.
