Tyrolean beauty

I have visited many European countries during the last 2-3 years, but none have impressed me as much as Austria with its beauty, its clean and exquisite appearance, its precise people and services and to top it all off, its passion for beauty. and not just any kind of beauty but beauty that is organized, cut, clean, precise, sharp.

Some travelers may prefer the wild side of beauty. One of my friends told me that she didn’t particularly like Austria because everything was too sharp, too precise, but for me the organized appearance made a country I visited my favorite vacation destination.

And one of the beauties that I admired in Austria was the Tyrolean pelargonium or geranium. Very few houses in Austria, including the city of Vienna, did not have flowers in the windows. However, I have never seen so many flowers as in Tyrol: Innsbruck, Wattens, Tulfes. Even the local Fire Department had potted flowers outside all the windows. It is an amazing and inspiring sight as the mountains are close by. Fresh geraniums that are in bloom most of the year make for a great view up close to the snowy mountain tops.

Waking up as early as possible in the morning allows you to see the mountainous area in all its splendor. Fog blankets the pine trees, the mountains seem so close to the window you can almost reach them with your hand, and the Tyrolean beauties on every balcony convince visitors to stay at least one more day in the area.

Tyrolean geranium colors range from white to red, pink, purple, and anything in between, and the flowers can be admired from spring to late fall. The look has become an emblem of the region, causing companies that grow and sell plants from all over Europe to include them in their spring catalogues. I have included them on my spring garden shopping list for this year as well.

Tyrolean beauties are not difficult to grow; They are strong and robust flowers that do not need too much attention, just a little fertilizer from time to time to enhance their natural appearance. Colors can be combined in pots creating a special design.

I highly recommend visiting Austria, especially the mountainous areas near Innsbruck. They are great in winter for winter sports, but more than that the area is special in summer when the cool atmosphere can make you a Tyrolean “junkie”. Tyrolean beauties complete the picture and the area wouldn’t be the same without them.
