Chevy Silverado Beats Ford F150 as Best Pickup Truck

There is always a lot of debate among Ford and Chevrolet truck enthusiasts as to which is the best truck. Sure, there are plenty of ways to compare the Chevy Silverado pickup and the Ford F150 pickup, including their specs, interior styling and comfort, exterior styling and features, fuel economy, price, horsepower and torque, etc. and reliability and longevity.

In many ways, the Chevy Silverado and Ford F150 are very similar, including horsepower and towing capacity, though there is video evidence of a Silverado pulling an F150 in a tug of war. But the general idea is that the performance characteristics of these two trucks are virtually identical, so we can call this a tie and it comes down to whether you’re a Chevy boy/gal or a Ford boy/gal.

If you look at the exterior styling of the Chevy Silverado, it has more angular lines than the Ford F150, which has more gently curved styling. Again, this comes down to Chevy vs Ford boy/girl. As for the interior styling, well, they’re trucks, so they’re not going to be much different in terms of seats, instrumentation, sound and air conditioning, etc. So again, it comes down to whether you’re a Chevy fan or a Ford fan.

Surprise, fuel economy is basically identical between the Chevy Silverado and the Ford F150 as well. Another category of specs that cannot be decided for any reason other than brand preference. Do you see a pattern here? What about reliability and longevity? That one is again hard to quantify, as there are always stories about the million-mile Chevy Silverado and Ford F Series hanging around. My bias would be to slightly favor the Silverado in this category; however, there is insufficient evidence from either party to reach a definitive conclusion.

So if the Silverado and the Ford F150 are virtually identical, how can you determine which is better? There is only one real factor that can determine which truck is better: the North American consumer! So right now, all Ford fans are clapping and patting themselves on the back for having the best truck, given that the Ford F150 sold 515,513 units in 2008 compared to the Chevy Silverado’s 465,065 units sold. So it looks promising for the F150, however, when you consider the fact that the GMC Sierra is just a rebadged Chevy Silverado with the GMC nameplate, total Chevy Silverado sales are over 633,609 units sold.

This makes the Chevy Silverado the eternally contested queen of trucks.
