Freestyler’s Top 10 Snowboard Tricks

If you’re looking for some great snowboarding tricks to pull off this season, here is my list of favorites.

The rodeo 540

Travis Rice reviewed this hack, but the explanation may vary a bit from different Freestylers like in the amateur video (see link below).

Basically you have to get high enough from the ramp and flip your squashed body over, head back facing the direction you want to go and twisting your legs and board in the meantime to finally hit the ground with a 540 rotation. Personally, I love this trick as it drives a real adrenaline rush and having your head directing your entire body while down is a great feeling.

720

Two Full Spins that are easier to maneuver in half Pipes (according to me). The advice is to aim with the chest starting with the head, the arms and then the whole body, the board will turn once and do the same the second time before hitting the snow. See the link at the bottom of the video.

McTwist

This trick combines a 540 backside with a front flip while holding Mute. It’s not as difficult as it sounds, but you should be comfortable with the front landing of the 540. The video link is at the end of the article.

Aged fish

Once you are in the air, grip your deck with your back hand over the edge of the snowboard’s heel behind the back seam, be sure to bone your deck to add a little touch to your style and also take care of your front arm.

Melon

A simple grip that every beginner wants to do and can easily do. It consists of putting the front hand behind the front leg, grabbing the side of the heel between the bindings and taking it to the next level, boning the front leg, and turning the wrist inward.

Method

Once you’ve mastered the melon and are confident in the air, place your front hand on the heel edge of your platform as you bend your knees and extend your back leg to bring your base in the direction of the jump. When done right, your body should form a nice arc and hold the position for as long as possible for the photographers.

Slob Air

The next level grip trick, as you better take a long ride to get a good feel as you lean over the deck, grab the mute, and extend your rear leg.

Butter

Buttering is also known as a glue or nose press. It consists of putting all the weight on the nose or tail of the board and making it bend considerably like a bicycle wheel.

BS truck driver

This trick is good and involves grabbing with both hands while gently turning in the air from behind. The catches are respectively Mute and StaleFish.

Flying squirrel

If you are not afraid to fly a little high, this trick is good to try and copy the squirrel flying through the trees. Be prepared to turn your platform on the front side but at the back of your body with both hands gripping the edge of the heel. Before landing, make sure you return to the correct position.

If you are heading to a snowboard resort, print these lines out and try one every day until you have mastered each one. At the end of your trip, have some friends shoot you and send me the photos.

You don’t need a high-end board to complete these tricks, but I can recommend a good one that many riders use, which is the Burton Custom X.
