Getting ready for the new 2-stroke dirt bikes

Two-stroke motorcycles have advantages over four-stroke motorcycles and V-6 motorcycles. 2-stroke engines have a much stronger acceleration rate and have far fewer parts that could go wrong. The powerbands on these bikes also make trail riding fun. Two-stroke bikes are much easier to jump into in any motocross race. Two-stroke bikes are much lighter; they are easier to maneuver with ‘popping wheelies’. These 2-stroke bikes have big engines that are much easier to start than four-strokes.

When the stunts involve difficult and potentially dangerous acts, these motorcycles are much easier to ride. 2-stroke engines start much easier than other dirt bikes. These bikes were popular around the world until the mid-1980s for stunt competitions, motorcycle activities, beach motorcycle rides, racing, and backcountry touring. The new race dirt bikes could be seen on all the major continents of the world. Every young man dreamed of owning a 2-stroke motorcycle.

Two-stroke dirt bikes are known as such for the unique way their engines work. When the engine piston moves downward, the fuel mixture is compressed under the piston. Then it is blown into the cylinder. Once the mixture is blown, the exhaust gases are expelled. This fuel mixture is blown into the cylinder through ports (passages) in the cylinder walls.

A 2-stroke motorcycle has become rarer and almost obsolete after 1985 due to public concern over pollution. Unlike 4-stroke and V6 engines, the engines in these motorcycles burned fuel AND oil at the same time. This type of combustion could pollute in an hour, like two 18-wheeler trucks traveling 1,000 miles. The public became fearful.

These are powerful dirt bikes with potential for speed and power. They are not expensive to manufacture and are light for their size. The engine is capable of high RPM (revolutions per minute). Two-stroke motorcycles were popular as sport bikes until around 1984.

The cost of maintaining or repairing these motorcycles is becoming more expensive, since parts and components are more difficult to find. Fewer and fewer motorcycle mechanics specialize in motorcycle repair methods. DIY manuals specializing in 2-stroke motorcycle engines are becoming a thing of the past.

These light, easy-to-maneuver bikes may, however, earn a resurgence. Technology in recent years has made engine parts compatible with these dirt bikes. The newer engines for the lighter bikes are built from aluminum alloy. Combustion in newer motocross engines burns fuel and oil separately.

Environmental damage is cited as a major factor in the decline of dirt bikes. Huge technological advances could resurrect 250cc 2-stroke motorcycles. There are already methods and means to make two-stroke bicycle engines that are even MORE eco-friendly than a four-stroke motorcycle. Perhaps one day, 2-stroke dirt bikes will once again be a motorcycling force to be reckoned with! This dirt bike has it all for a rider’s need for speed. It is also a great benefit to have such high performance with little malfunction.
