Different Foods Eaten In Nigeria And How To Cook Jellof Rice

Here is the list of the different foods eaten in Nigeria and how to cook them. Nigeria is a multilingual nation with more than 250 different ethnic groups and tribes, so Nigerian foods differ from one tribe to another.

Nigerians eat a lot of whole grains and cereals, cassava and its products, beans, yams, corn, potatoes, wheat, sorghum, and many others. Nigerians consume lots of sweet fruits including mango, orange, papaya, apple, pineapple, cherry and pears of all kinds.

The most popular foods in Nigeria are rice and eba. Rice can be made from different recipes, we have fried rice, jellied rice and it can also be cooked white and eaten with stew. Eba is a by-product of cassava, which is obtained by peeling, grinding, sifting and frying cassava, eba is also called garri and eaten along with different Nigerian soups.

Let’s start off on the right foot, jellof rice is the most consumed of all nigerian rice recipes and below is how to make jelly rice.

Let’s make chicken rice jelly for 5 to 6 people.

The ingredient includes:

* 3 cups of rice,

*Tomatoes fresh (medium blender full) or chopped into 15 to 20 balls,

*Chicken 1kg

*Maggi Seasoning

*Curry powder (1/2 tablespoon)

* thyme seasoning

*Onions 2 balls

*salt and pepper to taste

Preparation: boil the rice for about 10 minutes, wash and reserve, blend or chop the tomatoes and reserve, wash the chicken with hot water and boil with salt, maggi seasoning, curry powder, thyme and onion (1 ball). Boil the meat until soft for consumption, then separate the meat from the water, fry and set aside, chop the onions and set aside as well.

place your pot on the stove and let dry, add about 200ml peanut oil and let heat, add the onions, stir and add the tomatoes. Fry and stir until no sour taste, then add the water from the cooked meat then more water (about 2-3 cups), add maggi, salt and pepper to taste, then add the rice and cook until smooth to your liking (you can add water from time to time until soft)

Serve with the fried chicken and a bottle of coke.

There are many other foods that are eaten in Nigeria, foods that are made from other foods, like moi moi, akara are made from beans while pap is made from corn. We have different yam recipes, we have the oatmeal yam and it can be cooked as well. and is eaten with stew. For me, my best food is egusi and pounded yam soup, egusi is one of the most popular soup eaten in Nigeria, as well as bitter leaf soup, ogbolo, uha and chicken.
