More and more cool watches are coming to the market

One of the most exciting things happening when it comes to technology news is the resurgence of interest in watches that take advantage of the latest technological advances. If you’re someone who’s interested in cool watches and the advanced things you can do with them, then this is something you’ll want to consider. Samsung, for its part, has presented its Galaxy Gear. What’s interesting about this particular watch is that it takes advantage of existing Android operating system software, as well as that of some of Samsung’s line of smartphones, in its attempt to offer consumers something different. However, it remains to be seen whether this particular idea will succeed. Samsung could add a whole host of things to more aggressively bring the Gear to consumers. It has been offering bundles where the Gear comes with another Samsung smartphone. In theory, you could offer such things as free shipping e-promotions or other freebies, and more, to increase demand. However, the central question remains. Is this type of watch something people would be interested in?

After all, manufacturers have been incorporating more and more technology into watches for some time now. Even decades ago, there were watches that came with built-in calculators. There were watches that could be transformed into toy robots. There were also watches that could measure heartbeats and other vital statistics. Of course, the number of additional features is accelerated by the fact that there are many more ways to create a connected watch, whether you connect to other devices or the Internet. Parts and components continue to shrink, making it possible to pack a wealth of features into a watch the size of the Galaxy Gear. Also, manufacturers are looking for other device platforms where they can upsell to their consumers. After the phone came the tablet and maybe after the tablet they imagine smart watches.

There is even talk of more great watches to come. Google is said to be working on its own version of the smartwatch. Apple is also reportedly involved or interested in this particular market segment. Since both Google and Apple have software systems that allow you to interact with a device using your voice, it seems like a good fit for a watch, as the small screen isn’t very suitable for a keyboard. And there are also more independent initiatives, like Pebble, which came to life on Kickstarter. Again though, it remains to be seen if the demand is there or if any of these companies will be able to develop a terrific app that makes the smartwatch compelling. After all, even if companies offer promotions and giveaways, like free shipping electronics deals, discounts or sales or something else, if people don’t feel like they really need a smartwatch, then these devices still won’t be able to take off. Or maybe these watches will sell, but not in the quantities that these companies envision.
