Samsung Instinct Review

So yeah, I jumped on the bandwagon and got one of the instinct touchscreen phones on the Sprint network. This phone is pretty good. The features are amazing compared to its big brother, the iPhone.

I’ll break it down into a few sections for you and give my opinions.

Calls/Contacts: Call quality is excellent. Personally, I have not had a problem calling. My only issue is with the instant voicemail feature with this phone. Sometimes it seems like there is a lot of hissing or distortion from the list to the voicemails directly from the phone. Contacts are something that takes getting used to. Not being able to search for a contact makes it difficult for me because I have a lot of contacts on my phone. This is something I see Sprint/Samsung being able to work on in the near future. 7/10

Messenger service: I was disappointed to find out that there was no support as of now for instant messaging. This is a downfall when it comes to competing with the iPhone. However, I have read that there are ways around it on various forums. Heptic technology is amazing. A small vibration is what you feel when you press a key on the full touchscreen qwerty keyboard. I’ve been having some issues with my friends not receiving my picture messages and I’ve yet to figure this out. I love the fact that all messages come in a threaded format so you get the entire conversation on your phone instead of text by text. 6/10

Email: I am impressed with the email on this phone, I was able to set up not only my home mail, but also my work email (OWA) with virtually no issues and no problem. And with the help of one-touch buttons to set up popular free email accounts on the phone, like Yahoo, Gmail, make the phone very nice too. 8/10

Music video: The sound quality on this phone is very good in my opinion and having a regular headphone jack works too. I loaded up a bunch of albums on this phone and was impressed with the music player and the ability to pick up my album art too. The video quality on this phone is a bit lacking. Sometime blocky but very nice to be a phone. Being able to watch YouTube videos on my phone is a huge plus and the Sprint TV network is also very powerful with lots of live content from the NFL Network to MTV Live and the latest sports and news updates. 8/10

Camera: This is the worst feature of this phone. Image quality isn’t up to par and without flash it wasn’t a steal for me. The 2.0 megapixel camera is fine for capturing pictures on the go and the one button upload capability to the photo repository or Famous Myspace website gives every girl something to tickle her potty. 6/10

Browser: I wanted a little more sprint on this but what we got isn’t too bad. The mapping feature to navigate a web page and then zoom in is great. Also, holding down the camera button while browsing and tilting the phone also moves the browser which is very impressive. Being on the new Rev A network of sprints is a plus as the speeds in my area have shown great promise.

Other: The live search and navigation features on this phone are my favorite on this phone. Being able to search for the best gas prices with a single click is awesome and the ability to not have to call directory assistance to get a phone number is now obsolete. The GPS on this one is another thing that makes it stand out. I think Sprint did very well with the navigation part of this phone. 8/10

Although I’ve been a bit negative on this one, it’s just because it’s new and I think Sprint will find a way to fix these issues. One of my biggest complaints is that there is no active synchronization with the Outlook calendar. But I have found my own way to fix this and it only works with Outlook 07.
