5 ways to fit exercise into your busy schedule

Finding time to exercise when you have a busy schedule can be difficult. When you shift from thinking of exercise as just one more thing cluttering your daily to-do list to thinking of it as an escape from your daily grind, you’ll find yourself looking forward to your “time off” to exercise. Even if you only put in 20 to 30 minutes a handful of times a week, it’s putting you on the path to making it a regular part of your schedule. You will start to really enjoy it when you start to feel the benefits of your exercise! Finding time is not easy so we must make time.

Here are some tips on how to fit in a good workout with your busy schedule…

1. Schedule it. Write down when you plan to exercise in your calendar or in the agenda of your mobile. Schedule your training like it’s an important meeting you can’t miss. You can also set reminder alarms on your mobile phone to prompt you to exercise.

2. Do it at home. Whether you buy some home workout equipment like a treadmill or stationary bike, use online workouts, or fitness subscription services, it’s so much easier to exercise when you don’t have to leave your house to go to the gym during gym hours.

3. Start your day with it. As the day progresses and your energy wanes, you are less likely to exercise. Waking up 30 minutes earlier than normal to take a walk on the treadmill or a yoga DVD can start your day off on the right foot.

4. Do the little things. Little things like parking farther from your workplace or grocery store, taking the stairs instead of the elevator, or using the bathroom in your office on a different floor. Even standing up during TV commercials or marching in place is an idea. Doing these little things every day will soon add up and get you in the habit of thinking of ways to improve your health on a daily basis.

5.Responsibility. Find a training partner or someone like a coach to hold you accountable. Despite your best efforts, sometimes it’s hard to stay motivated. Having someone hold you accountable maximizes your chances of sticking with your exercise program. If your training partner is on the same mission as you, they are less likely to bring you down with the negative feedback we sometimes get from others. Friendly challenges are also a great way to encourage each other to work harder.

Here are some tips to help you fit exercise into your busy schedule. However, at the end of the day, it’s important that you get your exercise in and get over any excuses. The only person who can stop you is you.
